About the Florida Native Plant Lookup

Florida Seed Bank organizes published botanical records into a public reference for Florida native plants. The directory is designed for discovery, conservation education, restoration planning, and source-aware research.

What a record means

A plant profile represents a published native-plant record in the Florida Seed Bank directory. Inclusion does not mean Florida Seed Bank has collected, banked, propagated, or independently field-verified that species.

Native status

Public profiles are limited to records classified in the directory as Native. Taxonomic and status information can change as botanical authorities publish revisions, so records may be updated over time.

County evidence and Florida range

County lists reflect documented specimen or occurrence evidence available to the source data. Historical records do not guarantee a species is still present in a county, and absence from the list does not prove absence from that county. Regional summaries are derived from those county records.

Taxonomy and names

Scientific names, genera, families, synonyms, and common names are preserved as source-backed directory fields. Synonyms are provided to improve discoverability and should not be interpreted as a taxonomic opinion by Florida Seed Bank.

Images and licensing

Approved images are shown only when the directory has usable source attribution and licensing information. Image credits and links to original sources remain visible on profile pages.

Updates and quality control

Published records can be corrected, enriched, or unpublished as better information becomes available. The public sitemap is regenerated automatically from published native records, and plant profile metadata is generated from the current directory data.

Responsible use

Use the directory as a starting point, not as a substitute for permits, current field surveys, professional botanical identification, land-manager guidance, or conservation-status determinations. Do not use historical occurrence information to disturb, collect, or remove plants from the wild.

Sources and credits

See the plant data credits for current sourcing and licensing notes. Questions about a record can be sent through the Florida Seed Bank contact page.
