Help Expand Florida’s Native Seed Future

Florida Seed Bank is a statewide native plant conservation initiative protecting, documenting, preserving, and expanding Florida’s native plant biodiversity. Preparing for formal nonprofit incorporation in January 2027, the organization connects provenance-based seed conservation with restoration-scale production, habitat rescue, storage, propagation, research, and community participation.

The Founding Circle is for the people, landowners, conservation professionals, volunteers, organizations, and future supporters who want to help turn that vision into practical conservation infrastructure. That infrastructure must include both dedicated seed-bank freezers for species that tolerate drying and freezing and protected land for species that can only be preserved through propagation and living collections.

Founding Circle participation is not limited to financial support. Your time, land, expertise, native seed resources, equipment, advocacy, and professional connections can all help create the foundation needed to conserve Florida’s native flora.

Organization status: Florida Seed Bank is preparing for formal incorporation as a Florida nonprofit in January 2027. Its organizational structure and Board of Directors are established. Financial contribution features are activated only as the organization’s banking, accounting, reporting, and charitable-solicitation systems are ready.

Ways to Join the Founding Circle

Help us build the people, land, seed resources, and partnerships required for a strong statewide native seed conservation network.

1

Founding Financial Support

Operating a scientific conservation initiative requires funding for field equipment, seed processing, dedicated seed-bank freezers, moisture-resistant packaging, temperature monitoring, backup power, recordkeeping, nursery capacity, land preparation, irrigation, training, and public outreach.

Supporters can help fund specific parts of the mission as contribution channels and project sponsorships are made available.

Seedling Supporter Support for seed collection bags, labels, cleaning screens, tools, and basic field supplies.
Habitat Advocate Support for protected conservation land, regional amplification plots, nursery space, irrigation, soil preparation, planting, maintenance, and living collections.
Conservation Benefactor Support for dedicated seed-bank freezers, temperature monitoring, backup power, viability testing, protected land, research, statewide partnerships, and larger restoration initiatives.

Contribute Native Seed Resources

Private landowners and native plant enthusiasts may be able to contribute legally acquired seed from correctly identified native Florida plants.

  • Seed must come from native, non-invasive plant species.
  • Collection must occur legally and with the landowner’s permission.
  • Protected plants or public lands may require permits or additional authorization.
  • Source county, collection date, habitat information, and photographs should be provided whenever possible.
  • Contact us before harvesting, mailing, or delivering any seed.

Volunteer in the Field

Hands-on participation is at the heart of the Florida Seed Bank’s community-powered conservation model.

  • Scout and document native plant populations.
  • Join supervised ethical seed collection days.
  • Help dry, clean, sort, label, and catalog seed lots.
  • Plant and maintain native seed amplification plots.
  • Assist with habitat planting, outreach, and education.

Partner as a Landowner

Florida landowners can support conservation without transferring ownership or permanently changing the use of their property.

  • Allow trained teams to evaluate native plant populations.
  • Provide approved access for low-impact seed collection.
  • Host a chemical-free native seed amplification plot or living conservation collection.
  • Help preserve plant genetics from land facing future clearing or development.
  • Share local knowledge about habitat, fire, flooding, and seasonal conditions.

Help Build Florida’s Native Plant Genetic Resource Repository

Founding support expands the physical infrastructure behind a statewide genetic archive of Florida’s native flora: conservation freezers, monitoring systems, backup power, archival packaging, viability testing, propagation space, accession databases, seed amplification plots, and geographically separated duplicate storage.

Financial Contribution Portal

Florida Seed Bank is developing its organizational structure and preparing for formal nonprofit incorporation in January 2027. Banking, accounting, reporting, and contribution systems are maintained as part of responsible nonprofit administration.

Online contribution links are activated as financial and administrative systems are ready. Contributions support specialized freezer infrastructure, monitoring systems, backup power, nursery capacity, seed amplification, protected conservation land, and the systems required to preserve both stored seed and living plant collections.

What Founding Circle Members Help Build

Founding supporters help expand the conservation systems that volunteers, scientists, restoration partners, landowners, and Florida communities rely on.

Ethical Collection Capacity

Trained teams, field tools, legal guidance, landowner relationships, and scientific protocols for responsible native seed collection.

Documented Seed Collections

Cataloged seed lots connected to species, source location, collection date, habitat, regional conditions, and processing history.

Conservation Land & Living Collections

Protected, chemical-free land, nursery space, irrigation, and amplification plots for species whose seeds cannot be preserved safely through conventional freezer storage.

Volunteer Education

Hands-on opportunities to learn native plant identification, ethical harvesting, processing, propagation, and restoration.

Restoration Partnerships

A growing network of landowners, restoration practitioners, researchers, agencies, educators, conservation professionals, and community partners.

Long-Term Conservation Infrastructure

Dedicated seed-bank freezers, moisture-resistant packaging, temperature monitoring, backup power, viability testing, propagation facilities, protected land, data systems, trained people, and partnerships needed to preserve Florida’s ability to restore damaged habitat.

Be Part of Florida’s Conservation Legacy

The Founding Circle represents the people who helped establish this mission before the seed bank had mature facilities, statewide programs, or a large donor network.

Whether you volunteer for a field day, identify native plants, offer access to private land, contribute legally sourced seed, share technical knowledge, provide equipment, or express interest in future financial support, your participation helps build additional conservation and restoration capacity Florida urgently needs: statewide provenance records, long-term genetic storage, seed amplification, habitat rescue, propagation, living collections, and regionally appropriate seed for restoration.

What begins as one collected seed, one volunteer, or one participating property can grow into restored habitat and preserved plant genetics that benefit the state for generations.

“The future of Florida’s native landscapes will be shaped by the people willing to protect their seeds today.”
